The research gave us permission to build this
- · Parent-child joint book reading has an effect size of d = 0.59 on language and literacy, independent of socioeconomic status (Bus, van IJzendoorn & Pellegrini, 1995).
- · Dialogic reading — the back-and-forth between parent and child — adds roughly 8 months of expressive language in a one-month intervention (Whitehurst et al., 1988).
- · The self-reference effect is one of the most replicated findings in cognitive psychology: information encoded against the self is remembered better, period (Symons & Johnson, 1997, meta-analysis of 129 studies).
We are technologists. We use AI every day — for work, for cooking, for travel, for writing this very paragraph. When our own kids reached toddler age, we hit the same wall every parent hits: the screen time options were either generic, unsafe, or both, and the one thing the research kept telling us mattered — reading aloud to our own kid, together, every night — was the hardest thing to actually fit in.
