Accessibility at WonderCast
Bedtime stories where your child is the hero
WonderCast is built to be enjoyed by every family. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA across our apps and to surface every accessibility feature Apple makes available on each platform we ship to. This page describes the features we support today, what's in progress, and how to reach us if you hit something that isn't working for you.
Supported features
VoiceOver tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS
Every interactive control in WonderCast carries an accessibility label, role, and hint. Reader text, dialogue lines, story metadata, and navigation are fully exposed to VoiceOver. Use Siri Remote on tvOS or standard VoiceOver gestures on iOS / iPadOS / macOS.
Dark Interface tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS · web
WonderCast ships in a permanent dark color scheme using a deep purple background and high-contrast white text. This reduces eye strain during evening reading and improves readability for users with light sensitivity.
Sufficient Contrast tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS · web
All text meets or exceeds WCAG AA contrast against the brand background. Primary text is full white, secondary text is white at ≥ 72% opacity, and small caption text is rendered with medium weight to remain legible at distance.
Differentiate Without Color Alone tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS · web
Selection state is communicated by fill and a brand-gold border and a scale change. Toggles use icons next to text labels (speaker, headphones, captions, hand-draw, etc.), and focus is indicated by both glow and motion.
Reduced Motion tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS
When the system "Reduce Motion" preference is on, WonderCast skips continuous animations: confetti at the end of a story, floating background orbs, the active-card gold halo pulse, the diagonal shimmer sweep, and the swipe-hint banner fade are all disabled. Focus feedback (brief scale on focus) is preserved as essential interaction feedback.
Captions tvOS · iOS · iPadOS · macOS · web
Every video, book, and audio story includes word-by-word time-synchronized captions for narration and dialogue. Caption size is configurable (Small / Medium / Large / Extra Large). Captions can be toggled off entirely via the player settings overlay.
Reading mode controls
Beyond Apple's standard accessibility features, WonderCast offers reader-specific options that we believe are accessibility-relevant:
- Read to Me — narrator and dialogue play aloud with synchronized word highlighting.
- Read Yourself — silent mode for independent readers; pages turn via swipe or remote.
- Word Highlighting toggle — disable yellow word-by-word tracking if it's distracting (Read to Me mode).
- Caption Size — four sizes scale narration and dialogue text from Small (~24pt) to Extra Large (~52pt) for kids who are still learning to read.
- Dyslexic-Friendly Font — opt-in OpenDyslexic font for both reader and caption text.
What we're working on
- Larger Text (app-wide) — today our Caption Size only scales reader/caption text. We're extending it to navigation, settings, and library lists.
- Audio Descriptions — we're evaluating an additional descriptive narration track for video stories that describes on-screen action for users who are blind or have low vision.
- Voice Control — we're tracking Apple's expansion of Voice Control to additional platforms.
